Christian Allen Makes lha HISTORY

History was indeed made this past weekend as Junior, Christian Allen, became the first LHA Scholar to win a State Championship in any organized activity! Christian took state with a deeply stirring performance of his dramatic interpretation, "Not A Genuine Black Man" by Brian Copeland. This piece chronicles and celebrates the continuing struggle of African Americans who fight stereotypes and refuse to be boxed in. Christian's dedication, hard work and perseverance has paid off in a tremendous way. We will be sharing Christian's award winning performance soon so be on the look out for it! Cormell Padillow Makes History at State 2018

This past weekend Sophmore, Cormell Padillow made history by becoming the first Scholar to place at State in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking by placing 4th in the State! DEX, as it is often called, is a very daunting event where students are given a question to answer in a 5 to 7 minute speech delivered ti multiple judges. Students only have 30 minutes to write their speech and they are only allowed to use citations they have collected prior to the competition. Cormell's subjects at State included net neutrality, Russian sanctions and presidential impeachment to name a few. Cormell has worked very hard this year and it had paid off! He is also the captain of our debate team. GO MIGHTY SCHOLARS!!

This Sophomore dynamic duo has taken huge steps forward this debate season! Together they have debated over 500 hours this season. Their hard work has earned them a bid to the Nation Urban Debate League Tournament in Washington D.C. April 19th-21st. Recently the team also fought their way to fourth place at the OSSAA State Tournament, beating out a senior team that won state last season. These young people work very hard and have accomplished great things and the best is yet to come. #LHADEBATE

The Scholars Head to state for the first time

In April the Speech, Drama and Debate team made history as they traveled to the University of Oklahoma for their first trip to the Oklahoma State finals. The Scholars took 10 individual entries to State and away with 3 state winners, including a State Champion, Christian Allen in dramatic interpretation! The entire team has worked tirelessly to hone their skills and Scholar Nation could not be any prouder! Congratulations to Mr. Daniels on a historic season. Thank you to all the parents who traveled to State as chaperones, to all the LHA staff who supported the team in small and large ways this season. Last, a sincere thank you to our Administration for thier support.

Junior ReShayla Tucker Wins 2018 mlk oratorical contest

In January Scholar ReShayla Tucker brought the house down with her stirring rendition of Dr. King's iconic "I Have A Dream" speech! Hundreds of Tulsans came out to hear a Langston Hughes Academy Scholar for the second year in a row. Key-Addriah Davis won the competition last year as well sponsored by ONE Gas. Miss. Tucker was poised, articulate and resolute to deliver Dr. King's words with passion and conviction. You could hear a pen drop in Boston Avenue's historic sanctuary as ReShayla made history as the first Lady Scholar to win the oratorical competition. Job very well done ReShayla! #ScholarNation is proud of you!
